If you haven’t seen a photo of Lenny Kravitz, iconic singer and actor, in a crocheted super scarf, you are missing out. He is causing quite a stir and craze for these ginormous scarves. Not to be out done, but actually completely by coincidence, the Winter 2023 issue of Crochet World has an amazing super scarf pattern in it by designer Bonnie Barker! I think Lenny saw our issue [wink, wink]!
The Arrows & Popcorn Super Scarf is 13.5 inches wide and 88 inches long! It uses 9 skeins of Plymouth Encore Chunky, which is a huge amount of yarn but remember popcorns and fringe use more yarn than a typical pattern. The large hook and chunky yarn means that although this scarf is big, it will work up faster than you can imagine! For other yarn options, click here.
And if you think the stitching looks intimidating, the designer has taken that fear away as well. She has created a how-to video for working the design. She has made a video for both lefties and righties! If you can’t scan the QR code in the issue, click on the version you need here to go directly to the video (left-handed video / right-handed video).
Another thing you may not realize at first glance is that this scarf is worked from long edge to long edge. That makes it easier to create the arrow patterning that you see framing both sides of the scarf. It also means you are working fewer rows. If you have ever made an afghan or started one, this will feel the same. You just get to fasten off sooner! Work this up in your kids’ or grandkid’s favorite colors and gift them this Christmas! They are sure to be a BIG hit [pun intended]!
UPDATED 10/17/2023: We do have an errata posted for this pattern through no fault of the designer. Her video instructions are correct. You can find the errata here.
