Part 2: How to Stitch the Anise Star Stitch from Spice It Up! Throw

Let’s go over how to work the tops of the Anise Star stitch used in the Spice It Up! Throw from the Autumn 2023 issue of Crochet World. To see the bottom of the anise star stitch, visit yesterday’s post here.

Row 17: Ch 4, sk first tr,
tr in next tr, —below is what this row will look like after completing these initial stitches.

sk next side star-point,
(top star-pointsee Special Stitches, —here is how this portion is worked
Yo twice, insert hook in indicated eye,

yo, pull up lp,

[yo, draw through 2 lps on hook] twice (2 lps on hook, tr post made), —here is what it looks like at this point

do not yo, —you don’t want to yarnover this time but just go back down into the same spot as the treble you just made
insert hook in same eye,
yo, pull up lp,
yo, draw through first lp on hook to ½ inch long (3 lps on hook), —below is what it will look like with the loop pulled up

yo, draw through all lps on hook.

ch 3, —be sure to work this chain 3 before working the next top of the star in the same location as the first. Red arrow is your chain 3, green arrow is where your next top star point will go in the same spot

(top star-point) in each eye across to last side star-point, —Now you will work the star point again into the same spot as the previous one.
Yo twice, insert hook in indicated eye,
yo, pull up lp, [yo, draw through 2 lps on hook] twice (2 lps on hook, tr post made),

do not yo, insert hook in same eye, yo, pull up lp, yo, draw through first lp on hook to ½ inch long (3 lps on hook),

yo, draw through all lps on hook.

You will work a top star point, ch 3, top star point in every “eye” across.
To do that you are skipping that first side point of the bottom star and going into the spot where all the bottom star points meet. The next image shows the side star you skip and the arrow points to the eye you work into.

Here is what your last top star set will look like when you are at the end of the row. You will have one side star point left

sk next side star-point, —skip past that last star side point to work into the remaining 2 treble stitches
tr in next tr,
tr in top of beg ch-4. —image below

Fasten off.

Again double check you have the correct stitch counts at the end of the row and then you can move on to the next stripes! Enjoy!
