If you have been crocheting for even a few years, you may have come across Sophie’s Universe, a unique crochet afghan that has been made over 6,500 times by Ravelry fans!
Sophie’s Universe is a continuous square afghan crocheted with lots of texture and surface detail. The pattern was originally released as a 20-part crochet-along (CAL) in 2015, designed by Dedri Uys and sponsored by Scheepjes yarn. The concept of a crochet-along is that one person posts a large project bit by bit, either on a blog or Facebook, and a group of people all work on it at the same time.
Sophie’s Universe is one of the most popular CALs of all time and was made into a printed book and published by Scheepjes in the Netherlands, but was not made available in the U.S. until recently.
Annie’s is proud to announce that the popular crochet-along is available in printed format for U.S. customers exclusively from Annie’s.
Despite its complexity, the pattern is actually written specifically for adventurous beginners. Sophie starts out with a simple granny square that has a beautiful crochet flower in the center and gradually unfolds into a stunning hypnotizing design.
The book instructions are broken up into 18 different sections allowing the crocheter to stitch the pattern bit by bit and to see the design unfold as they stitch. Also included are step-by-step color photos and instructions of every stitch used in the afghan to ensure success for even adventurous beginners!
The blanket can be made in 3 sizes using a different weight of Scheepjes yarn. Annie’s is now carrying all 3 weights, so you can choose which size you would like to make.
