Crochet designer Terry Day hails from Bellaire, Ohio, a very small town on the border of Ohio and the West Virginia panhandle, where she has lived all her life. She was honored when her design, Pretty Posies Throw, was chosen as the April 2013 cover of Crochet World magazine.

A designer on and off for over 30 years, Terry began designing full-time four years ago. She thinks she was about 12 when she began learning to crochet from her mother. Since her mother was left-handed, and Terry is right-handed, it was tough going, so her grandmother took over the teaching. Terry also learned a lot on her own from books, and her passion grew!

Many things inspired Terry to become a designer. First off, she is a very creative person, and she loves when that is evident in her designs. Secondly, when she needed something and couldn't find a pattern for it, she decided to just make it on her own. "I figured that if I had a need, others would also," recalls Terry. Lastly, Terry explains that she had a financial need after losing a job, and she took that as a sign that she should pursue her passion full-time.

"I love creating, and my imagination is always running wild, just as it has since I was a child. I remember my teachers telling me that, and art class was always my favorite," she says.

Over the years, Terry has designed many patterns for Crochet World magazine. Her love of flowers and gardening was the inspiration for the Pretty Posies Throw. "I also wanted to create a throw that had more of an open and lacy look and feel that made it unique and different from a lot of other throws. Lavender and yellow are one of my favorite color combinations.

"This design can be made as large or small as the crafter would like. I love that it can be equally lovely as a throw on a bed or sofa, or as a full-size bedspread. It could even be made small enough for a baby or even a baby doll blanket by making fewer motifs. It is a very versatile design in addition to being lovely. It has turned out to be one of my very favorites of the over 100 designs I have created.

"Since childhood, I have had a deep-rooted love and passion for crochet. My mother and grandmother, who were expert crocheters, have now passed on. I hope that their passion and their memory live on through my designs in the craft. I have met such great editors, assistants and all the others who put the magazine together; it makes it even more fun, and I feel like I am part of the 'family.'"
