 Button Ornaments
Designed by Elizabeth Ann White
A little glitter of gold to make the yuletide shine.
Size
Round Ornament is 2 1/2" across
Teardrop Ornament is 2 1/4" x 3 3/8".
Materials For One Set
- Size 10 crochet cotton thread -- 100 yds. white and 30 yds. gold metallic
- 8 assorted decorative shank buttons
- 32" white 4 mm strung pearls
- 64" maroon 1/4" satin ribbon
- liquid fabric stiffener
- rust proof pins
- cardboard
- plastic wrap
- masking tape
- craft glue or hot glue gun
- No. 7 steel hook or hook size needed to obtain gauge.
Gauge
Rnds 1-4 of Round Ornament = 2 1/4" across;
rnds 1-3 of Teardrop Ornament = 1 3/4" x 2 3/4".
Basic Stitches:
Ch, sl st, sc, dc.
Round Ornament (make 2)
Rnd 1: With white, ch 4, 17 dc in fourth ch from hook, join with sl st in top of ch-3. (18 dc made)
Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in same st, 2 dc in each st around, join. (36)
Rnd 3: Ch 3, 2 dc in next st, (dc in next st, 2 dc in next st) around, join. (54)
Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off.
Rnd 5: Join gold with sc in first st, ch 3, skip next st, (sc in next st, ch 3, skip next st) around, join. Fasten off.
Finishing

Apply fabric stiffener to Ornament according to manufacturer's instructions. |

Pin Ornament to plastic-covered cardboard; shape. Let dry completely. |

Glue button to center of each ornament pushing shank through hole in center. |

Tie 16" piece of ribbon into a 2" bow leaving ends for streamers. Glue bow and 8" piece strung pearls to Ornament (see photo). |

For hanger, insert 10" piece gold crochet cotton through ch sp on last rnd. Knot ends. |
Teardrop Ornament (make 2)
Rnd 1: With white, ch 8, sl st in first ch to form ring, ch 3 (counts as first dc), 6 dc in ring, ch 3, 7 dc in ring, ch 3, join with sl st in top of ch-3. (14 dc, 2 ch sps made)
Rnds 2-3: (Ch 3, dc) in first st, (dc in next st, 2 dc in next st) across to next ch sp, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next ch sp, 2 dc in next st, (dc in next st, 2 dc in next st) across to next ch sp, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next ch sp, join, ending with 46 dc and 2 ch sps in last rnd. At end of last rnd, fasten off.
Rnd 4: Join gold metallic with sc in either ch sp, (ch 3, sc) in same sp, *ch 3, skip next st, (sc in next st, ch 3, skip next st) across to next ch sp*, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next ch sp; repeat between **, join. Fasten off.
Teardrop Ornament (make 2)

Apply fabric stiffener to Ornament according to manufacturer's in-structions. |

Pin Ornament to plastic-covered cardboard; shape. Let dry com-pletely. |

Glue 3 decorative buttons to each Ornament pushing shanks through ch sps (see photo). |

Tie 16" piece of ribbon into a 2" bow leaving ends for streamers. Glue bow and 8" piece strung pearls to Ornament (see photo). Repeat on other Ornament. |
