Materials

  • Red Heart Super Saver medium (worsted) weight yarn (7 oz/364 yds/198g per skein):
    • 5 skeins #311 white
    • 2 skeins each #368 paddy green, #774 light raspberry and #885 delft blue
  • Sizes G/6/4mm and I/9/5.5mm crochet hooks or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Tapestry needle

Gauge
Size I hook: 3 sts = 1 inch; 7 sc rows = 2 inches

Special Stitches
Front post single crochet (fpsc): Insert hook from front to back to front again around post of indicated st, yo, pull lp through and complete as sc.
Front post treble crochet (fptr): Yo twice, insert hook from front to back to front again around post of indicated st, yo, pull lp through and complete as tr.

Instructions

Afghan
Row 1: With size I hook and white, ch 136, hdc in 3rd ch from hook (first 2 chs count as first hdc), hdc in each ch across, turn. (135 hdc)
Row 2 (RS): Ch 2 (counts as first hdc), hdc in each st across, turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. Fasten off.
Row 4: Join light raspberry with sc in first st, sc in each st across, turn. Fasten off.
Row 5: Join white with sc in first st, sc in each st across, turn. Fasten off.
Row 6: Join paddy green with sc in first st, sc in each st across, turn. Fasten off.
Row 7: Join white with sc in first st, sc in each st across, turn. Fasten off.
Row 8: Join delft blue with sc in first st, sc in each st across, turn. Fasten off.
Row 9: Join white with sc in first st, sc in each st across, turn.
Row 10: Ch 2, hdc in each st across, turn.
Row 11: Ch 2, hdc in each st across, turn. Fasten off.
Row 12: Join paddy green with sc in first st, sc in same st, sc in each of next 2 sts, [fpsc (see Special Stitches) around next st, fptr (see Special Stitches) around next st 3 rows below, fpsc around next st, sc in each of next 3 sts] across, pull up lp, remove hook, do not turn.
Row 13: Join light raspberry with sl st in first tr of previous row, ch 3 (counts as first dc), 4 dc in same st, [ch 2, 5 dc in next tr] across, turn. Fasten off. (22 flowers)
Row 14: Join delft blue with sl st in center sk st behind first flower of previous row (this st will be the sk hdc of row 11 that the fptr of row 12 was worked around), ch 3, 4 dc in same st, [ch 2, 5 dc in next center sk st behind flower of previous row] across, do not turn. Fasten off. (22 flowers)
Row 15: Pick up dropped lp of paddy green from row 12 and working in sc of row 12, do not work in fpsc, ch 1, sc in each of first 3 sc, [placing follow ch at center between flowers, ch 3, sc in each of next 3 sc] across, turn.
Row 16: Ch 1, sc in each of next 2 sc, insert hook in end st of flower facing, into next sc and into end st of flower at back, yo, pull up lp, yo, pull through both lps on hook (this secures the end flowers to the Afghan), ch 3, [3 sc over ch-2 sps of rows 13 and 14, ch 3] across to last 3 sc, insert hook in end st of flower facing, into next sc and into end st of flower st back, yo, pull up lp, yo, pull through both lps on hook (this secures the end flowers to the Afghan), sc in each of next 2 sc, turn. Fasten off.
Row 17: Join white with sl st in first sc, ch 2, hdc in each of next 2 sc, [3 hdc over next ch-3 sp, hdc in each of next 3 sc] across, turn.
Row 18: Ch 2, hdc in each st across, turn.
Row 19: Ch 2, hdc in each st across, turn.
Rows 20-22: Rep row 19.
Row 23: Rep row 12.
Note: As you rep rows 13 and 14, notice how the flower colors alternate and on which side of Afghan they are.
Row 24: Rep row 13.
Row 25: Rep row 14.
Row 26: Rep row 15.
Row 27: Rep row 16.
Row 28: Rep row 17.
Row 29: Rep row 18.
Row 30: Rep row 19.
Next rows: [Rep rows 3-30 consecutively] 5 times, rep rows 3-11. At the end of last row, fasten off.

Side Trim
Row 1 (RS): With size G hook, join white with sc and working across ends of rows, evenly sp sc across, turn.
Row 2: [Ch 1, sl st in next sc] across. Fasten off.
Rep rows 1 and 2 across ends of rows on opposite edge.

End Trim
Row 1 (RS): With size I hook, join white with sl st, [ch 8, sk next st, sl st in next st] across. Fasten off.
Row 2 (RS): With size I hook, join paddy green with sl st in first sk st of previous row, [ch 8, holding white ch-8 sp in front, sl st in next sk st, ch 8, holding next white ch-8 sp to the back, sl st in next sk st] across. Fasten off.
Rep rows 1 and 2 on opposite end of Afghan.
