Materials

  • Patons Brilliant light (light worsted) weight yarn (1 3/4 oz/166 yds/50g per ball): 5 [6, 7, 7, 8, 9] balls #03012 earthy glow
  • Size H/8/5mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Tapestry needle
  • Safety pins

Gauge
21 sc = 4 inches; 22 rows = 4 inches

Pattern Notes
Weave in loose ends as work progresses.
Join rounds with a slip stitch unless otherwise stated.
For ease in counting beginning foundation chain, attach a safety pin every 50 chains.

Vest

Neck Shaping
Row 1: Work in pattern across to last 8 [8, 9, 10, 11, 11] dc, dc in next ch-2 sp at neck edge, leaving rem sts unworked, turn.
Row 2: Ch 3, work in pattern across to end of row, turn.
Continue working even in pattern until Block pattern has been completed twice, ending with a WS row, fasten off.
Matching sts, sew Fronts to Back across shoulders.

Armhole Edging
Rnd 1: With RS facing, attach yarn with sl st in any st of armhole opening, ch 1, work 60 [60, 80, 80, 80, 80] sc evenly spaced around armhole opening, join in beg sc.
Rnd 2: Ch 1 sc in each sc around, join in beg sc.
Rnd 3: Rep rnd 2, fasten off.
Rep on opposite armhole.

Vest Edging
Rnd 1: With RS facing, attach yarn with sl st in lower Left Front, ch 3, dc in each of next 2 sts, [2 dc in next ch-2 sp, sk next st, 2 dc in next ch-2 sp, dc in next dc] across to last 2 sts, dc in each of next 2 sts, working up Right Front, ch 1, sc evenly spaced up front, working 3 sc at corner points and sc dec (see Stitch Guide) in next 2 sts at each corner of neck edge, sc in each sc down Left Front, join in top of beg ch-3, do not turn.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each dc across bottom edge, sc in each sc up Right Front, around neckline and down Left Front, working 3 sc at each point and sc dec in each neckline corner, join in beg sc.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in each sc and in each ch-2 sp and 3 sc in 2nd sc of each corner, 3 sc in 2nd sc of each corner, join in beg sc.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Ties
Make 4.
Make a ch 15 inches in length, turn ch sideways, sl st in back of 2nd ch from hook, sl st in back bar (see Fig. 1) of each chain to end of ch, fasten off. Sew first set of Ties to fronts at beg of Neck Shaping and sew 2nd set 4 inches below first set.
Tie each set of Ties in a bow.
