Materials

  • Classic Elite Premiere light (light worsted) weight yarn (13/4 oz/108 yds/50g per hank): 8 [8, 9, 10, 10, 12] hanks #5291 robin's egg
  • Size G/6/4mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Yarn needle
  • 12 x 15mm decorative shank button

Gauge
[Sc, ch 5] 4 times = 4 inches; 9 rows = 4 inches

Pattern Notes
Weave in loose ends as work progresses.
Cardigan should be very close fitting.
Cardigan uses net stitch throughout but varies number of chains per stitch to create subtle shaping effect. There is no right or wrong side due to the nature of the net stitch.

Note: For each Sleeve, work 3 [3, 3, 4, 4, 5] rep of Edging. For Body, work 22 [22, 22, 23, 24, 25] rep of Edging. After completing, check to be sure each section of Edging is long enough.

First Edging Repeat
Row 1: Ch 8, sl st to join in first ch, ch 3, 9 dc in ring, turn.
Row 2: Ch 4 (counts as first dc, ch-1), dc in next dc, [ch 1, dc in next dc] 8 times, turn.
Row 3: Ch 5 (counts as first dc, ch-2), dc in next dc, [ch 2, dc in next dc] 8 times, turn.
Row 4: Ch 6 (counts as first dc, ch-3), dc in next dc, [ch 3, dc in next dc] 8 times, turn.
Row 5: Ch 1, [(sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc) in next ch-3 sp] 9 times, turn.

Additional Edging Repeat
Row 6: Ch 8, sk next sc, sk next hdc, sl st in next dc, turn.
Rows 7-10: Rep rows 2-5 of First Rep of Edging.
Continue to rep Additional Edging. Repeat until Edging, as indicated in note, is completed, ending last rep with row 5.

Edging
Row 1: Working along edge that will be attached to Cardigan, ch 5, *sc in top of last dc of row 3, ch 2, sc in 3rd ch of row 2, ch 2, sc in top of last dc of row 1, ch 2, sc in ring, ch 2, sc in last dc of row 4 of previous rep, rep from * along Edging, ending with (sc, ch 2, sc) in beg ch-8 ring of row 1 of First Edging Repeat, fasten off.

Attaching Edging
With RS facing, working through both thicknesses, ch 3, working in ch-3 sps, *insert hook through Edging ch sp and through Sleeve ch sp and complete sc, ch 3, sk next sc on Sleeve and Edging, rep from * until Edging is attached.

Finishing
Sew button to inside edge at junction of joining of Front and Edging about level with beg of armhole. For buttonhole, use natural ch sp on opposite edge.
