Hat
With F hook, fits 3-4 years
With E hook, fits 1-2 years
Materials
- Purchased knit T-style top
- Purchased split skirt, shorts or Capri pants
- Size 10 crochet cotton (350 yards per ball):
- 1 ball rose
- 1 ball pink
- 1 ball violet
- 1 ball green
- 1 ball aqua
- E/4/3.5mm and F/5/3.75mm crochet hooks or hook size needed to obtain gauge
- 1/2-inch buttons: 6 yellow, 2 green
- Sewing needle
- Sewing threads to match crochet cotton
Gauge
With F hook and double strand of crochet cotton: 6 dc = 1 inch
Basic Stitches
Ch, sl st, sc, dc
Pattern Note
All pieces are worked with a double strand of crochet cotton.
Hat
Rnd 1: With F hook and rose, ch 5, join with sl st in first ch to form ring; ch 4 (counts as first dc and ch-1 sp throughout), [dc in ring, ch 1] 7 times, join in 3rd ch of beg ch-4. (8 dc and 8 ch-1 sps)
Rnd 2: Sl st in next ch-1 sp, ch 4, dc in same sp, ch 1, [dc, ch 1] 2 times in each ch-1 sp, join.
Rnd 3: Ch 4, *dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, dc in next dc, ch 1, skip next ch-1 sp, dc in next dc, ch 1, repeat from * 6 times more, dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, dc in next dc, ch 1, skip next ch-1 sp, join.
Rnd 4: Ch 5 (counts as first dc and ch-2 sp throughout), [dc in next dc, ch 2] around, join in 3rd ch of beg ch-5.
Rnd 5: Ch 6 (counts as first dc and ch-3 sp), [dc in next dc, ch 3] around, join in 3rd ch of beg ch-6.
Rnd 6: Ch 5, dc in next ch-3 sp, ch 2, *dc in next dc, ch 2, dc in next ch-3 sp, ch 2; repeat from * around, join in 3rd ch of beg ch-5.
Rnds 7-13: Repeat rnd 4. Fasten off.
Edging
With F hook, join violet with sc in any ch-2 sp, 3 dc in next ch-2 sp, [sc in next ch-2 sp, 3 dc in next ch-2 sp] around, join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off.
Tie
With rose, ch 160. Fasten off.
Dragonfly (make 2)
Body
With E hook and green, ch 7, *ch 4, [yo, insert hook in 4th ch from hook, yo, draw through 2 lps] 3 times, yo, draw through all lps on hook; repeat from * once more (lower and upper body sections made); [ch 4, sl st in last st made] 2 times (head and eyes made). Fasten off.
Wings
Join aqua with sc at bottom right of lower body section, ch 7, dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next 3 chs, sc in center of right edge of body, ch 9, dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next 5 chs, sc in top of upper body section, working behind head, ch 1, sc in top of left edge of upper body section, ch 9, dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next 5 chs, sc in center of left edge of body, ch 7, dc in fourth ch from hook, dc in next 3 chs, sc at bottom of left edge of body. Fasten off.
Lavender Flower (make 4)
Rnd 1: With E hook and violet, ch 5, join with sl st in first ch to form ring, ch 1, 10 sc in ring, join with sl st in first sc.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in first sc, ch 1, 5 dc in next sc, ch 1, [sc in next sc, ch 1, 5 dc in next sc, ch 1] 4 times, join. Fasten off.
Light Pink Flower (make 2)
Rnd 1: With E hook and pink, ch 5, join with sl st in first ch to form ring, ch 1, 10 sc in ring, join with sl st in first sc.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in first sc, [ch 1, 5 dc in next sc, ch 1, sc in next sc] 3 times. Fasten off.
Dark Pink Flower (make 2)
With E hook and rose, [ch 6, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc in next 3 chs] 3 times, join with sl st in first ch. Fasten off.
Leaf (make 7)
With F hook and green, ch 7, sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc in next 2 chs, hdc in next ch, sc in last ch. Fasten off.
Trim (make 6)
Row 1: With F hook and rose, *ch 4, 3 dc in 4th ch from hook, repeat from * for desired length of trim. Fasten off.
Row 2: Join violet with sc in last dc made on row 1, working along side of row 1, 3 dc over same dc, sc in ch at base of dc, *3 dc over next dc, sc in ch at base of dc, repeat from * across. Fasten off.
Finishing
On hat, weave tie through rnd 15. Trim thread ends to about 1 1/4 inches. Sew one each lavender flower, leaf and button to each end of tie.
Using photo as a guide, sew remaining flowers, leaves and dragonflies to top and pants as shown or as desired.
Sew buttons over flower centers.
Sew trims to top and pants.
