AEvalina Gwynne

Coloring Afghan - October 2010
AEvalina Gwynne

As editor of Crochet World magazine, I have the opportunity to review hundreds and hundreds of design submissions. Rarely do I see one as professionally executed as the one sent in by 15-year-old AEvalina Gwynne. Her presentation was flawless, and we just loved the design. So, Crochet World is proud to present what will surely be the first of many designs from the hands and hook of AEvalina Gwynne.

A little about her in her own words:
"I am a sophomore in Lodi, Wis. My mom taught me to crochet when I was 4, and I needed something to do while recuperating from a major stroke. When I got all the stitches down, I made doll clothes of every color, shape and style, but my short attention span left many projects unfinished. When I was older I showed my projects, specifically matching hats I made for them, to my sister and friends, and they wanted me to teach them how to crochet too. I've always liked designing my own projects, and afghans have recently become my favorite thing to make. Last summer, I made a scrap afghan out of all my unfinished projects. When I designed this crayon afghan, I was totally into crayons after my friends and I dressed as crayons for Halloween. I decided to send this project in for publication because my mom has had things published before in Crochet World, and I've always thought it was cool. I'm now working on an afghan based on a photo of my friends that I altered to show individual pixels and made into a graph. It is actually turning out to look like us. I really enjoy crocheting because I feel like I'm accomplishing something creative with my own hands. It is also a very relaxing activity when I am stressed from school. Other hobbies I enjoy are reading, dancing and baking -- especially cookies."
