Handmade Especially for You Update

Crocheters are the most generous and warm-hearted people I know. The story Handmade Especially for You we ran on Oct. 27, 2009, elicited a generous response from our readership. Leslye was at first overwhelmed by the volume of e-mails she received and sent us an update about how the program is going:

From Leslye Borden, founder of Handmade Especially for You:

We delivered 1,000 comfort scarves before Thanksgiving. We delivered more than 2,000 comfort scarves in time for Christmas. Honestly, I didn't think we would be able to achieve this goal, but with all of you working so hard, we did it. Your output and dedication to reaching these goals was amazing.

The shelters were very much appreciative of your hard work. I have already received many wonderful and heartwarming responses from them.

About 20 more people have inquired about starting chapters. We will work with them to do so in January. Since domestic violence occurs everywhere, in every community, in every socio-economic and religious group, chapters of Handmade Especially for You need to be everywhere. The impact of these scarves has been so positive here in Southern California. We hope this experience will be repeated throughout the country.
