Lacy Summer Shawl

There's nothing like a lacy shawl to bring out the best in a pretty summer dress. This one is warm enough for chilly evenings, yet drapes with feather-light elegance.

FINISHED SIZE
42" x 56"/106.7cm x 142.2cm.

MATERIALS

  • 16 oz./453.6 lilac Katia Brisa from Knitting Fever Yarns, Inc., or rayon/acrylic sport yarn.
  • F/3.75mm hook or hook size needed to obtain gauge

GAUGE
3 dc, 2 ch sps = 1"/2.5cm; 2 dc rows = 1"/2.5cm.

BASIC STITCHES
Ch, sl st, sc, dc, tr.

SPECIAL STITCHES
For 2-dc shell, (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next ch sp.
For 3 dc shell, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next ch sp.

SHAWL

Row 1: Starting at top edge, ch 181, dc in fifth ch from hook, (ch 1, skip next ch, dc in next ch) across, turn. (89 ch sps made)

Rows 2-87: (Sl st, ch 4) in first ch sp, dc in next ch sp, (ch 1, dc in next ch sp) across, turn. Fasten off. (3 ch sps)

Border

Rnd 1: Working around entire outer edge, working in starting ch on opposite side of row 1, join with sc in first ch sp, sc in same sp, 2 sc in each ch sp across, (ch 3, sc in next row) 87 times, ch 3, sc in first ch sp of row 87, (ch 3, sc in next ch sp) 2 times, (ch 3, sc in end of next row) across, ch 3, join with sl st in first sc. (178 sc across top edge, 177 ch sps)

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, sc in next ch sp, (ch 3, sc in next ch sp) 87 times, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next ch sp, (ch 3, sc in next ch sp) 87 times, sc in last ch sp, join.

Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in each sc across to next ch sp, sc in next ch sp, (7 dc in next ch sp, sc in next 2 ch sps) 29 times, 9 dc in next ch sp, (sc in next 2 ch sps, 7 dc in next ch sp) 29 times, sc in last ch sp, sc in each st across, join. Fasten off.

Row 4: Join with sc in next to last sc on top edge, 3 sc in next st, *(dc in next dc, ch 1) 6 times, dc in next dc, skip next sc, 3 sc in next sc; repeat from * across to 9 dc group, (dc in next dc, ch 1) 8 times, dc in next dc, [3 sc in next sc, skip next sc, dc in next dc, (ch 1, dc in next dc) 6 times; repeat from * across, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next sc leaving remaining sts unworked, turn.
