Materials
- Hemp fine beading twine (400 yds/80g per ball):
- 1 ball natural
- Hemp fine dyed beading twine (200 yds/40g per ball):
- 20 yds red
- 10 yds purple
- 2 yds yellow
- Size G/6/4mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
- Tapestry needle
Gauge
15 sc = 4 inches; 3 sc rows and 1 dc row = 1 1/4 inches
Pattern Notes
Weave in loose ends as work progresses.
Join rounds with a slip stitch unless otherwise stated.
Bag
Front
Row 1 (RS): Starting at bottom of Front with natural, ch 46, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each rem ch across, turn. (45 sc)
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, working in front lps (see Stitch Guide) for this row only, sc in each st across, turn.
Rows 4 & 5: Rep rows 2 and 3.
Row 6: Rep row 2.
Row 7: Ch 2 (counts as first dc), dc in each st across, turn.
Row 8: Rep row 3.
Rows 9 & 10: Rep rows 2 and 3.
Row 11: Rep row 7.
Rows 12-31: [Rep rows 8-11 consecutively] 5 times.
Rows 32-35: [Rep rows 3 and 4 alternately] twice. At the end of row 35, do not turn.
Row 36: Ch 1, work 40 sc evenly spaced down side edge of Front rows, fasten off. (40 sc)
Row 37: Attach natural with sl st in opposite side of foundation ch, ch 1, work 40 sc evenly spaced up side edge of Front rows, fasten off. (40 sc)
Back
Row 1 (RS): Starting with flap, with natural, ch 46, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each rem ch across, turn. (45 sc)
Rows 2-31: Rep rows 2-31 of Front.
Rows 32-37: [Rep rows 3 and 4] alternately 3 times.
Row 38: Rep row 7.
Rows 39-42: Rep rows 8-11.
Rows 43 & 44: Rep rows 3 and 4.
Row 45: Ch 1, sc evenly spaced up side edge of rows 45-1, sl st in each st across opposite side of foundation ch, sc evenly spaced down side edge of rows 1-45, fasten off.
Gusset
Row 1: With natural, ch 127, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each rem ch across, turn. (126 sc)
Row 2: Ch 1, working in front lps for this row only, sc in each st across, turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.
Row 4: Rep row 2. At the end of row 4, do not fasten off.
Assembly
Row 1: With Front of Bag facing, holding Gusset edge to row 37 of Front and working through both thicknesses, sl st evenly spaced down side edge, across bottom edge and up opposite edge, fasten off.
Row 2: Sl st in each sc of row 1, fasten off.
Row 3: With Back of Bag facing, hold Gusset with RS facing RS of Bag, position Gusset edge below Flap and working through both thicknesses, sl st evenly spaced down side edge, across bottom edge and up opposite edge, fasten off.
Handle
Make 2
Row 1: With natural, ch 71, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each rem ch across, turn. (70 sc)
Row 2: Ch 1, working in front lps for this row only, sc in each st across, turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.
Row 4: Rep row 2, leaving a length of natural, fasten off.
With tapestry needle, sew each end of first Handle to Front over rows 24-26 with 6 inches free at center between ends of Handle.
With tapestry needle, sew each end of 2nd Handle over rows 21-23 with 6 inches free at center between ends of Handle.
Flower
Make 2 red and 1 purple.
Rnd 1: With yellow, ch 2, 11 sc in 2nd ch from hook, do not join, draw up a lp of red (purple), fasten off yellow. (12 sc)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, [(hdc, 4 dc, hdc) in next st, sk next st] 6 times, join in first hdc. (6 petals)
Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join in beg sc, fasten off.
With tapestry needle, alternating colors, center and sew Flowers on edge of flap.
