Tomato Pincushion

This old-fashioned tomato-style pincushion is the perfect idea for the seamstress or gardener on your gift list!
Crochet this delicious tomato pincushion to add a festive touch to your Thanksgiving spread. It will keep your hands busy, plus add no calories to your diet. It's also a quick and easy project for the seamstress or gardener on your gift list.

Materials
- Worsted weight yarn: 1 oz cherry red, small amount forest green
- Size F/5/3.75mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
- 3-inch plastic foam ball
- Fiberfill
- Tapestry needle
Gauge
4 sc = 1 inch; 4 sc rnds = 1 inch
Check gauge to save time.
Pattern Note
Weave in loose ends as work progresses.
Join rnds with a sl st unless otherwise stated.
Slice a small amount of top and bottom edge of plastic foam ball so that it sits flat.
Pincushion
Rnd 1 (RS): With cherry red, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join in beg sc. (6 sc)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around, join in beg sc. (12 sc)
Rnd 3: Ch 1, [sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc] rep around, join in beg sc. (18 sc)
Rnd 4: Ch 1, [sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc] rep around, join in beg sc. (24 sc)
Rnd 5: Ch 1, [sc in each of next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc] rep around, join in beg sc. (30 sc)
Rnd 6: Ch 1, [sc in each of next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc] rep around, join in beg sc. (36 sc)
Rnd 7: Ch 1, [sc in each of next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc] rep around, join in beg sc. (42 sc)
Rnd 8: Ch 1, [sc in each of next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc] rep around, join in beg sc. (48 sc)
Rnd 9: Ch 1, [sc in each of next 7 sc, 2 sc in next sc] rep around, join in beg sc. (54 sc)
Rnds 10-13: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, join in beg sc.
Rnd 14: Ch 1, [sc in each of next 7 sc, dec 1 sc over next 2 sc] rep around, join in beg sc. (48 sc)
Rnd 15: Ch 1, [sc in each of next 6 sc, dec 1 sc over next 2 sc] rep around, join in beg sc. (42 sc)
Rnd 16: Ch 1, [sc in each of next 5 sc, dec 1 sc over next 2 sc] rep around, join in beg sc. (36 sc)
Rnd 17: Ch 1, [sc in each of next 4 sc, dec 1 sc over next 2 sc] rep around, join in beg sc. (30 sc)
Insert plastic foam ball into crocheted piece. Stuff around sides with fiberfill, do not place stuffing on top and bottom.Rnd 18: Ch 1, [sc in each of next 3 sc, dec 1 sc over next 2 sc] rep around, join in beg sc. (24 sc)
Rnd 19: Ch 1, [sc in each of next 2 sc, dec 1 sc over next 2 sc] rep around, join in beg sc. (18 sc)
Rnd 20: Ch 1, [sc in next sc, dec 1 sc over next 2 sc] rep around, join in beg sc. (12 sc)
Rnd 21: Ch 1, [dec 1 sc over next 2 sc] 6 times, sl st in next st, leaving a length of yarn, fasten off. Sew opening closed.
Wedge Trim
Thread tapestry needle with a long length of forest green, knot at center top of Rnd 1, [insert needle in center bottom of Rnd 21, pull slightly to indent yarn that runs from center top to center bottom, knot to secure, bring yarn up on opposite edge, insert needle in Rnd 1, pull slightly to indent yarn that runs from center bottom to center top, knot to secure] rep until you have completed 6 wedges from top to bottom with yarn evenly sp around tomato, secure, fasten off.
Tomato Top & Bottom
Make 2
Rnd 1: With forest green, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join in beg sc. (6 sc)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, [sc, ch 2, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc] in each sc around, join in beg sc, fasten off.
Sew to each center top and bottom of tomato.
Strawberry
Rnd 1: With cherry red, ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, join in beg sc. (6 sc)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, [sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc] 3 times, join in beg sc. (9 sc)
Rnds 3 & 4: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, join in beg sc.
Rnd 5: Ch 1, [sc in next sc, dec 1 sc over next 2 sc] 3 times, join in beg sc, leaving a length of yarn, fasten off.
Stuff strawberry with a scrap of fiberfill and sew opening closed.
Strawberry Top
Rnd 1: With forest green, ch 2, [sc, ch 2, sl st in 2nd ch from hook] 5 times in 2nd ch of beg ch-2, ch 12, leaving a length of yarn, fasten off. Sew rem length to center top of tomato.
