100 Designs and Counting!

Jennifer Ryan, long time contributor to Crochet World and Crochet! magazines recently informed us that her Wild Rose Bag in the June 2016 issue of Crochet World is her 100th published design!

Wow! That is quite an accomplishment considering her first published design with Annie’s was accepted just 4 years ago! Annie’s is proud to have published 50 of her 100 designs since she began her design career.

Jennifer says, “I became a designer quite by accident. I had been teaching crochet locally for a few years when I went to my first Crochet Guild of America (CGOA) conference and attended the Professional Development  seminar. I learned how to become a designer – something I had never considered before.  I followed everyone’s advice and waited a whole year for my first design to be published in 2012.

Since then, I have loved creating new patterns and working with everyone at Annies – Carol Alexander, Jackie Daugherty, Sara Meyer and Ellen Gormley. I greatly appreciate all of their hard work and kindness to me.

My first design for Annie’s was the Rainbow Bike Basket in the Spring 2013 special issue, Crochet Gifts to Go.

Here are some of my all-time favorite designs that have been published by Annie’s:

M22150_Kerry_300_medium[1]

Kerry Shrug – One of my most popular designs and a simpler version of my first design that won an award in the CGOA design competition. I receive many compliments every time I wear it and love that it was featured on the TV show, Knit and Crochet Now.

M22161_SnowCrystal_300_medium[1]

Snow Crystal Scarf – Loved this yarn! It really looks like ice and snow!

M01226_CrayonGobbler_300_medium[1]

Crayon Gobbler – I loved engineering this project using the shell stitch in the round so that when folded in half, it created the colorful crayon pockets.

M01228_Bookmark_300_medium[1]

Love to Read Bookmark – I love how you can quickly crochet this project to give to a friend who loves to read and who needs to know you care about them – I have made several of these to give as gifts.

M01226_BangleBead_300_medium[1]

Bangle Bead Scarf – The luxurious yarn makes this such an eye-catching piece and I love the addition of the scarf bails with the sparkly beads.

M01229_BobbiesLaceWrap_300_medium[1]

Bobbie’s Lace Wrap – I created this design based on a vintage tablecloth pattern my grandmother had crocheted years ago. I vividly remember it being used in our home growing up. I was inspired by her love of crochet and inherited all her old pattern books.  My family loves this tribute to her, too.

It has been a great blessing to use my creativity and crochet skills as a designer. I look forward to many more projects with Annie’s.”

And the next chapter for Jennifer? She is our special guest teacher on our first ever crochet tour! Jennifer and Ellen Gormley, editor of Crochet! magazine, are heading off to Ireland June 24-July 3. In between all the wonderful sightseeing, Jennifer will be teaching her signature Celtic knot designs!
